Inspirational Women

Featured Story : Jan Allan

Hi I’m Jan,

a qualified Christian Clinical Family Therapist.

A little about me,

I believe I have a great sense of humour though my daughters may challenge that statement 😊. I have raised three children, one boy and two girls on my own over 27 years. This has been a challenging task in many aspects. I endured a very dysfunctional family background, the origin of several unhealthy learnt behaviours, beliefs and patterns.

After many years of self-medicating and self-sabotaging behaviour, I travelled through my first two pregnancies with a very selfish approach. I came to a point where I believed “there has to be more to life than this!”. After this decision, I began to look for my identity as I was a mess of emotions which effected countless choices and decisions, I made.

On the journey, my youngest daughter was born with complex congenital heart disease, and shortly after this, my marriage broke down. It had been turbulent for many years due to addiction drugs, alcohol, gambling, domestic violence, communication struggles and many other issues. I began to grow up and take responsibility at a deeper level — a lonely task caring for and teaching myself and my children how to love.

What a learning curve, when I met the Lord Jesus Christ, it began. I’m not going to lie it was hard work. I saw my lack of parenting skills! Which was so challenging to get over. There was also a lack of financial wisdom which has personally taken many years to get my head around. Embarking on a journey of education from a position of poverty to comfortable acceptance was another extreme challenge. Entering adult higher education was the ultimate in confronting my core self-belief.

However, I would not go back for all the tea in China, although I am rather partial to Chinese tea😊. I believe I am restored and continue to heal and move forward; I have overcome many challenges which you can find more info about on my web page.
